On December 11, 2019 we gathered for our annual Toys for Children of Tennessee Soldiers Christmas luncheon! This was our 15th Annual toy drive for the Tennessee National Guard and Reserve Units and it was a smashing success! Our deepest thanks to all who participated and a warm thanks to Corner Pub (Bellevue), Lien Nails 5 (Bellevue), Norman Fox and Donut Den (Green Hills), and Cathedral of the Incarnation (Nashville) for allowing us to put collection boxes in your locations.  A special thanks to Girl Scout Troop 841 for making this event their participation project!

During our event, Tim Skow (1st Tuesday Conservative Group) was honored with a Certificate of Appreciation from the Nashville Republican Women for his enormous support and participation with this event and Tim and our President Mary Obersteadt were presented with a memento and a Certificate of Appreciation from the Tennessee National Guard and Reserve Units by Lieutenant Colonel Richard Stackpole and Caitlin Vassar, Lead Child and Youth Program Coordinator. LTC Stackpole spoke with our group about the impact these events have in the lives of military families.

Mary Obersteadt honored our outgoing board members with Proclamations from the House of Representatives for the State of Tennessee presented by former Tennessee Speaker of the House Beth Harwell to Barbara Outhier, Myrna Elmer, Kathy Langan and Beth Lance for all of their extraordinary and tremendous hard work.

Senator Jack Johnson swore in the 2020-2021 NRW Board Members who are as follows: Mary Obersteadt – President, Stacy Ries Snyder – 1st VP (Programs), Patricia Mathes – 2nd VP (Membership), Karen Porter – Treasurer, Amy Dudley – Corresponding Secretary, and Hattie Bryant (Recording Secretary).

Our annual toy drive could not have reached the level of success without our Co-Chairs Myrna Elmer and Amy Dudley who worked so hard to make sure we could help make Christmas special for so many children of soldiers in the Tennessee National Guard and Reserve Units.

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and May God Bless You All!

Tennessee is the 10th largest National Guard in the nation with more than 15,000 members.  Currently there are more than 1,000 service members deployed across the globe.  Units are routinely activated to help with recovery efforts in affected states for a multitude of natural disasters ranging from floods, wildfires and hurricanes. They have participated in the effort to secure the U.S. Southwest border, provided safety and security details at the Presidential and State level, and participated in the Governor’s Task Force on Marijuana Eradication (drug seizures, destruction of meth labs and arrests of violators).
